Senile (atrophic) vaginitis is nonspecific vaginitis. It presents as vaginal inflammation from low local resistance and pathogenic infection around menopause, caused by various factors; severe cases narrow or even close the vagina. Mostly in postmenopausal women, but also after bilateral oophorectomy or during lactation. Main cause is declined ovarian function with low/absent estrogen, reduced glycogen, alkaline vaginal pH and reduced pathogen-killing; plus atrophic thin mucosa with poor blood supply.
Vaginal dryness, burning, discharge
Estrogen deficiency causing thin atrophic mucosa prone to infection.
Local estrogen, protect mucosa
Local estrogen after menopause.
It is recommended to visit the gynecology department; before the visit you may first book an appointment and connect with experts through this platform.
