The normal placenta attaches to the posterior/anterior/lateral wall of the uterine body. If it attaches to the lower segment or its edge reaches/covers the internal os, lower than the presenting part, it is placenta previa. It is a major cause of late-pregnancy bleeding and a serious complication; mismanagement threatens mother/fetus. Domestic rate 0.24%-1.57%, abroad 1.0%; 85%-90% are multiparas.
