本类药或化痰以治本、或止咳以治标，兼能平喘定悸，为肺系诸证之常备。本品天南星味苦、辛，温；有毒，入肺、肝、脾经。功善燥湿化痰，祛风止痉，散结消肿，为化痰止咳平喘药中的常用要药，主治顽痰咳嗽，风痰眩晕，中风痰壅，口眼歪斜，半身不遂，癫痫，惊风，破伤风；生用外治痈肿，蛇虫咬伤。咳嗽痰喘须辨寒热虚实，新病多实、久病多虚，治宜标本兼顾。【使用注意】化痰药温燥者伤阴，寒凉者碍脾；久咳虚喘及孕妇须辨证慎用。
