Glomus tumor

Glomus tumor is a benign tumor of normal glomus bodies; usually solitary (multiple rare). Tender/painful, occasionally painless digital lesions. Female predilection (except other sites favor male). Widespread truncal lesions may number dozens; clusters coalesce. Most common in fingers.

Common Symptoms

Nodule; perivascular infiltration; radiating pain; severe pain

Causes

Arises from normal glomus (a skin structure regulating peripheral vessels/blood flow/BP/temperature). Trauma/inflammation/external irritation triggers it. Solitary favors males/children (26.3% before age 15); multiple familial cases suggest autosomal dominant inheritance. Chronic pressure/friction/temperature changes also trigger.

Treatment

Surgery; supportive care

Prevention

Eat fruits/vegetables/soy/cabbage/tomato/carrot/jujube; chicken/lamb/beef. Avoid alcohol, spicy/rich/spoiled/irritating foods; limit smoked/grilled/pickled/fried/salty foods.
