Strategic lessons to eradicate malaria in Equatorial Guinea, Tuvalu and Georgia provide insight into

In recent years, global health institutions and public health systems have continued to advance capacity building to provide stronger safeguards for public health. Malaria remains the world's leading cause of morbidity and mortality, estimated at more than 26. 3 billion cases and 597,000 deaths worldwide in 2023, with about 94% occurring in sub-Saharan Africa.

Despite such a heavy burden, in recent years, some low- and middle-income countries have succeeded in achieving targets to eliminate the local spread of malaria. This article presents and synthesizes the description and synthesis of three malaria eradication experiences that have been certified as malaria-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2025 in the three countries of South Sudan, East Timor and Georgia. Between 2012 and 2025, we recovered a total of 129 citations from official reports such as WHO, Global Fund and PAHO, national public health documents, and peer-reviewed citations from databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar.

Keywords for searches include malaria elimination, malaria-free certification, Suriname malaria, Timor-Leste malaria and Georgia malaria. Entry requirements for elimination are policy relevance, references to publications in English or French, full text availability, systematic inclusion in the WHO, PAHO and Global Fund grey literature. The three countries share many common success determinants: strong and enduring political commitments, robust epidemic monitoring systems, active community mobilization activities and stable financial support.

The strategy adapts to the environment: the involvement of indigenous communities and the control of transatlantic communities in the Amazon basin (Suriname), widespread coverage and broad partner support in post-conflict environments, and the resilience and eradication of the system in the context of political transition, and the resilience and eradication of the system in the context of political transition, and the resilience of the system in the context of political transition. Key lessons to be learned from countries severely affected by malaria include strengthening community-based monitoring, transnational cooperation, community education and access to sustainable financing. The risk of reintroduction remains real and monitoring after reintroduction is essential.
