Explore the organization, functioning and questioning of the Medical Information Centre: insights ga

Recently, global medical institutions and public health systems have continued to advance service capacity building to provide stronger safeguards for public health. Centers for Information on Medicines (CMIs) are a core component of providing evidence-based clinical practice support to reduce the occurrence of medication errors. This study provides an in-depth look at the organization and functional characteristics of international CMIs and the types of inquiries they handle.

The findings are intended to support the development of new CMIs and provide constructive recommendations for improving CMIs. This study provides an overview of narrative reviews in the PubMed database. In addition, an anonymous e-questionnaire was sent to hospital pharmacists through the European Hospital Pharmacists Association.

Through 20 studies and surveys of 7 CMIs, it was found that most were hospital-based. The literature recommends that they provide regional services, while survey data shows that they usually only serve one institution. They operate mainly during normal business hours, with some providing 24/7 availability.

In addition to promoting the service, however, the dissemination of pre-occurrence information through brochures and education is also important. Digitalised documentation is mostly used for new CMIs, whereas the previous documentation is not able to do this kind of integration. The use of frequently asked questions page integration is limited in all CMIs.

Electronic health records (EHR) based survey systems are rare, found in only three hospitals surveyed. In order to ensure effectiveness, the focus of quality assurance efforts is on recording references and responses, verifying responses and ensuring timely responses. This study provides an overview of an EHR-based survey system designed to guide its organization and practice.

The results suggest that future CMIs should prioritize regional cooperation and digital integration to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness. It should be noted that the above content is based on international public research outcomes, and is not a clinical recommendation.
